  Panic! At The (indie) Disco

Poster boys of the current emo scene, Panic! At The Disco, have announced a U.S. tour and, slightly bafflingly, the Bloc boys have been asked to accompany them, along with Jack's Mannequin.

Here's the epic Stateside trek in full (deep breath):

07.11.06 Sunrise, FL - Bank Atlantic Center
08.11.06 Orlando, FL - UCF Arena
09.11.06 Atlanta, GA - HiFi Buys Amphitheatre
10.11.06 Charlotte, NC - Cricket Arena
11.11.06 Fairfax, VA - Patriot Center
13.11.06 New York, NY - Theater at Madison Square Garden
14.11.06 New York, NY - Theater at Madison Square Garden
16.11.06 Toronto, Ontario - Ricoh Coliseum
17.11.06 Rochester, NY - Gordon Field House at RIT
18.11.06 Lowell, MA - Tsongas Arena
19.11.06 Philadelphia, PA - Wachovia Center
21.11.06 Auburn Hills, MI - The Palace of Auburn Hills
22.11.06 Chicago, IL - UIC Pavilion
24.11.06 Minneapolis, MN - US Bank Theater
25.11.06 St. Charles, MO - Family Arena
26.11.06 Council Bluffs, IA - Mid-America Center
28.11.06 Denver, CO - Magness Arena

07.12.06 Glendale, AZ - Glendale Arena
08.12.06 Las Vegas, NV - Orleans Theatre
09.12.06 San Diego, CA - ipayOne Center

So, get to grips with those preposterously long song titles (sample specimen: 'There's A Good Reason These Tables Are Numbered Honey, You Just Haven't Thought Of It Yet') and go along to see how Bloc Party fare in front of the Myspace masses.

baffling.. more like wtf, thx for the heads up

I must admit, I'm quite a fan of Panic! Seeing them at Reading tomorrow.

I wish I could go to that damn tour though! Bloc and Panic! in the SAME DAY!

I think we should get ready for bloc party on the radio soon after. Good god...

Baffling indeed, but I'm not complaining given that I won't have to travel from Seattle to see them this time. =)

I'll just go for BP then leave before Panic! comes on

Weird, but exciting. Bloc can basically show up P!ATD anytime, but i'm excited to see them both.

How atrociously lame.

Not really sure if those MySpace losers will be able to handle quality music like BP. Or if I can stand a stadium full of them.

Panic and BP? That's like Gomez and Matisyahu! Which is actaully happening believe it or not.

Allow P!@TD, I'd kill to see Bloc Party and JM! Americans don't know how lucky they are...

Let's go to Bloc, and enjoy the show. And than, let's shout "shit" through the full Panic gig. Fuck emo.

Damned americans, you get all the best tours. *wants to go rather badly*

eww Panic at the disco....

BLOC PARTY =]

I think this will be an awesome tour: 2 great bands, 1 F-ing magnificent band (wonder which one that is?)

gag.

Fuck panic at the disco they're all the same american shit! i can't understand it! hopefully amercians can appreciate good music like BP! i hate emo, fuck emo!

I'd kill for a ticket.

oh god. bloc party and panic? thats like peanut butter and pickle juice.

does anyone else think that bloc party is selling themselves out by going on this tour. i personally am very disapointed by it.

Nooooo, not emo!!!!! :'(

this is a sign!!!! the end of the world....it is near....

im disgusted. ive been waiting for months for another UK tour and then they do this?! im vexed. i think the Bloc are actually starting to forget where thy come from.

i'd gladly sit through Panic's shit just to see Bloc Party live, yet there is no Ohio tour date.

BLECH

Gordy posted this over on the official forum:

I don't come in very often and I almost NEVER post but I just wanted to query why this announcement is the cause of such upset.

I detect a slightly elitest undertone to a couple of responses, which sounds like, what can that band's fans get from our band? But seriously, why should a band limit the number of people and the type of people they play in front of? That seems like a kind of prejudice to me, that a smaller number of people are in more of a position to understand and be the custodians of a band's music. All we're doing is putting ourselves in front of a new audience, playing our music, and allowing those people to come to their own conclusions. Presumably all of you came to us through similar means... through our playing gigs, or on the radio, whether it be in support of another band or at the discretion of a DJ or because of a decision by someone in the media to give airspace to what we do. That's how music spreads, right?

If we'd taken a lot of money to put our faces on packets of crisps then I would expect some derision. But for playing some gigs alongside bands that are not in the same demographic, for playing to new audiences? Isn't that what bands do? There are kids in Lowell and Charlotte and Council Bluff that might not otherwise get a chance to see us right now and I for one think that's a great reason to do it.

I hope you'll be welcoming to any new fans this might win our band. There's no rules to being a Bloc Party fan from where I stand, if it resonates with you then come on in.

With respect, I bid you all good day.

G.x

Then this a bit later on:

'Meaningful music' is very subjective though, isn't it? Yes, I love the bands you mentioned but I also only think there's so far you can get preaching to the converted and staying within the world you're used to constantly. You have to push yourself don't you? At least a band like us, we're all about going that bit further, straying into new waters.

I completely take your point about the venues and the ticket price. We're doing this tour partly because we didn't have much planned for that part of the year, there's no record out, and it's a good way to reach a load of people at what would be a fairly low-key point on the album cycle, ie just before a new record appears. It won't mean we'll play any less of our own shows next year, so don't overstretch your wallets. As for the venues, well that's all part of the different territory, although we do have a very good sound engineer who's also looking forward to the challenge. In short, it'll make a change, and if we reach a few Panic! At The Disco fans along the way, all the better, for us and them! Maybe it's us they'll be talking about on their way home.

And if we come out and blow the headliner offstage every night, all power to us right? But that'll be our little secret.

omg BP would just make my life if they came to aus with panic at the disco.

im gonna go to this concert just to see bloc party, then im gonna throw a bottle right at panic!s lead singer's face.
