  Hunting For Witches video

Bloc Party have gone back to basics for their latest video with a performance piece for 'Hunting For Witches', the new single out on July 9th in the UK. The minimalist approach has been used before (see the original 'Banquet' video), but this video has left some fans slightly disappointed, especially those who were hoping for some kind of witch-hunting, broomstick-racing sci-fi romp. Maybe they blew their budget on the first two videos?

Either way, this is still stylishly done (the slow-mo bit at 2:32 is impossibly cool) and the quality of the song speaks for itself. See the video below...

It reminds me of the video for Two more years

yeah, and it also gives the feeling that the music is coming from their instruments directly. I was hoping for a medieval kind of theme though.

the music video was kept extremely extremely simple. it wasnt all that good and not all that bad, i just wish they elaborated on it more. the slow mo with russell and the guitar was sweet though.

I loved it.

I loved the video for 'Two more years', so the return to this style is welcomed by me:D Really nice video, and yeah, that slo-mo bit is sweeet:)

There was a voice over introducing the video on MTV2 and they said something like "they had a wardrobe budget of £10,000 but decided to be minimalists and wear t shirts"

I like the widescreen approach, but it leaves little to the imagination - i was imagining something more political , as much as i hate to say it - its a bit of a let down really.

I like it simple... the pure music with no flash behind it. The way it should be.

Very disappointing, guys. One of the most boring music videos I've seen in a long time - and no amount of slow-motion can change that. Sorry!

Does anybody know what the sticker on Russell's guitar is? I saw it at a gig, but wasn't close enough to see it clearly.

I don't hate it, but its not my favorite Bloc video. The slo mo bit with Russell was cool.

It was the boys, their instruments and the music. I couldn't have wanted anything more.

I thought it was more like how, since they were in a black room with nothing around them, how disconnected everyone feels from each other in this day-and-age past those events which are sung about in the video (being the London bombings and September 11th), plus, making a video centering around Politics or what not would be hypocritical of what they've said the song is meant to be about in interviews, as they'd be feeding off the fear and infatuation all these awful events have received as the media does; well at least that is my interpretation of the video. Regardless, I think they did a good job.

damn fucking straight some fans are dissapointed.

but wait, do you see that .. ?

yeah, there goes my faith for Bloc Party, going down the shitter.

congrats guys.

come onnn...it's only a video... chin up! I think I'd rather they released a simple video than something which tied in with the lyrical theme - that could have gone badly wrong

I think the video wasn't as political/graphic as it could of been because the government or standards may not have allowed the video to air..
Just a thought

I liked it. Gives a feeling of isolation which gives the song a new vibe. And its really well shot it'll look better on TV ;]

xx

If the video gets spliced with seemingly random newsclips of conflict, would that be flashy enough for the fans disappointed by this video?

Then again, if they were to make one flashy video after another, then I'd only imagine that (more) people would call them MTV sellouts.

yeah...that could have made it more interesting/topical maybe :)

I thought this Video was ok but not good Like the song not the video and it reminds me of two more years you guys still rock

I think they focus more on the music than the videos, which is only truly the right thing to do really

"I think they focus more on the music than the videos, which is only truly the right thing to do really"

I concur.

However, judging from previous vcasts, they can easily get a "performance art" video by letting Mr. Tong run amok with a video camera while high on sugary treats.

i think people are perhaps being a bit harsh.

it was minimalistic, for sure.

i was expecting something a bit more... flashy.

what i got, was a video of Bloc Party playing an awesome song. and there's NOTHING wrong with that.

I thought this video was really cool.especially the beginning when kele walked up.tight shit.
nice and simple.
i wasn't dissappointed.at all.

x

People, if loved these guys from the bottom of your hearts, you wouldn't care if they had a crappy video or not, you would appreciate them performing their musical talents on your computer, iPod, or any other screen that you have. Remember, back in the not so old days of Silent Alarm? EVERY video, they played their instruments. This is no different. Don't expect too much change in this new album!

I thought something interesting was going to happen, obviously not...
