Cavaliers and Roundheads...the lyrics

Whilst most bands are happy to churn out a couple duff tracks to keep on the right side of their record company, Bloc Party seem incapable of releasing a b-side which is anything less than breathtaking. The pattern continues with 'Cavaliers and Roundheads', available now on the 'Hunting For Witches' CD single (or by downloading here). This track is a return to old-skool Bloc...razor-sharp riffs, a copious amount of "Hey"s and an addictive chorus à la 'Little Thoughts'. There's also a very impressive Strokes-esque guitar solo (see especially 'First Impressions Of Earth') which is worth the CD price alone.

is it just me or is bloc party starting to sound really generic. it hurts, but i cant help it. every song is just like the last now all dealing with sadness and problems with the world. i think we all know already. they're officially emo (ouch that felt like a stab wound) and now it pisses me off. believe me im not some new fan, ive been listening to them for like ever now. there isnt that spark of something new and fun like it used to. matts drumming sounds like any other bands drummer now unlike the crazy stuff before (it was so exciting!). you have to admit it, they've been sucked into the media. this track was the final straw. i cant take it! i dont think they should keep throwing out tracks like this either all the time. too much kills the excitement of something new and fresh to come. i think we can all wait a little while. When i saw that they had another track my mind went "oh great ANOTHER one". bloc!!! what are you doing to yourselves!!!!!!! im losing faith!

Well, you're lucky you can even listen to this song fully! I have to live off the 30 second samples because of where I live. You should be greatful for all the Bloc Party you can get.
And I'm not saying that I'm against the songs that they are coming out with (because they rock), but did you ever think this was a phase of some sort. If you're willing to wait, then wait.

this is not old fashioned bloc party. This is the same stuff that they've been delivering since a weekend in the city. Not that i did not like awitc but compared to there older work it is shit. The new songs are too overly produced, to generic, and it all seems to me they are just trying to get radio play.

Go back to Paul Epworth.
Be as creative as you used to be.
Kele sing the way you used too.

Once these things happen i might be able to consider them my favortie band again.

I've just had a listen to the 60 second clip and it sounds terrible.

What has happened to Kele's voice? I agree with a lot of what Stan had to say, but some of AWITC was amazing. It just isn't as good as Silent Alarm and before that (Skeleton, Marshalls etc).

Why have they stopped playing Little Thoughts at gigs?

officially an emo band????? what are you talking about. bloc party are as good as theyve ever been, and b sides like these deserve to be on an album. this song does have the feel of their older stuff-chinese burn, rivulet etc. i am going to see them at reading festival, and cannot wait. they will be the highlight of the weekend.
