'Silent Alarm' guitar tab book now available!

An official guitar tab book for 'Silent Alarm' has finally be released! I expect that these tabs will be a lot more accurate than most of those currently doing the rounds on the internet, as the band themselves were involved in the making of the book. All thirteen songs from the original release are included, plus the recent single, 'Two More Years'.

You can buy it
here for £14.95.

Bloc Party planning holiday treat for U.S. fans

According to Pitchfork, Bloc Party will be crossing the Atlantic once more before they lock themselves in the studio to start work on the second album. They'll be performing at four radio station holiday concerts in the U.S. this December, following their European tour. Dates will be posted up on blocparty.net when they become available.

There are also plans to release the 'God Bless Bloc Party' DVD, which came with the recently re-released version of 'Silent Alarm', in the U.S. - possibly in January 2006. This DVD is currently available to buy from 'Marshals'.

Cover of John Peel tribute single designed by Gordy

On November 21st 2005, a celebrity cover of the Buzzcocks' 'Ever Fallen In Love...' is being released as a tribute to John Peel. This was one of the songs in the DJ's treasured record box, where he kept his all-time favourites under lock and key.

Gordy has designed the cover for the single. Speaking to NME, he said: "The design of the single is quite simple - very Bloc Party - but I wanted it to have some warmth to it, which you don't always get with our sleeves. The single is about John Peel, who we loved, and it's also about Amnesty, so the heart motif fits in nicely with their 'Protect the Human' message as well as referencing the original sleeve."

Some of the other musicians involved in making the single are Pete Shelley (of the Buzzcocks), Peter Hook, Robert Plant and Roger Daltrey. All proceeds will go to Amnesty International.

  Happy Birthday Kele!

Kele is 24 today...many happy returns! Maybe those of you who are going to the Birmingham gig tonight can get some kind of 'Happy Birthday' song going in the crowd?!

Anyone who's not got tickets for the show can hear clips live on Radio 1 tonight as part of John Peel Day.

Video interview with Gordy on Undercover

I came across this four part video interview the other day. It was recorded in July 2005, during Bloc Party's short tour of Australia. Among other things, Gordy talks about the Mercury Music Prize nomination, the new songs and the high expectations for the second album.

  John Peel Day

Thursday October 13th 2005 is the date of the first John Peel Day, in memory of the influential DJ who died almost a year ago.

As part of this event, BBC Radio 1 will be broadcasting a special 6 hour show from 7pm featuring contributions from Radio 1 DJs, special guests and loads of live music.

Throughout the evening, Radio 1 will be crossing live to gigs, including Bloc Party's show at Birmingham Academy.

It's good to see that they've kept the line-up as eclectic as a typical John Peel playlist - other featured acts are The Fall, New Order, Super Furry Animals, Venetian Snares, Misty In Roots, Jawbone, Laura Cantrell, DJ Scotch Egg, Acid Casuals, Kid 606 and Drop The Lime!

  'Two More Years' chart placing

The new Bloc Party single, 'Two More Years', entered The Official UK Singles Chart at number 7 today, making it the band's second highest singles chart entry (behind 'So Here We Are', which charted at number 5 in February).

The single, which is currently on the BBC Radio 1 playlist, entered higher up in the chart than other new entries from artists such as James Blunt, Ricky Martin and Mariah Carey. In fact, the lack of quality singles released this week might be one reason why it did so well!

  The second album

According to NME.com, Bloc Party are going to take a break from touring at the start of 2006 to begin work on their second album, which is tentatively scheduled for release next summer.

Also, Bloc Party are planning on playing a few new songs on the current 'Bloctober' UK tour. These are
'Two More Years' (the current single), 'The Present' (recorded for the War Child charity CD), 'Cells Shaped Like Stars' (formerly 'Into The Blue') and 'Kids'.

Explaining the sound of 'Kids', Gordy revealed: "Kids' (has) this very disco offbeat in the chorus. It's our song to end punk funk - it's quite euphoric. I always felt that that style wasn't our only sound. But we definitely recognise where four to the floor works'
