The Secret's Out...another new Bloc Party song?!? Nope, no-one saw this one coming...a brand new Bloc Party track has surfaced online...'Secret', and it's a scorcher! (Think 'Luno' with some extra "ahh-oooh"s, an old-skool-Bloc guitar line and a beautifully warm chorus). Apparently this isn't going to be available anywhere else, so enjoy!!
Bloc Party Vcast (episode 3) Number three in the series of six, in which "Kele and Gordy do their best to talk us through the creative process from initial idea to final stages of making 'The Prayer' and indeed the whole album, 'A Weekend In The City'. Gordy also provides us with a studio snapshot of life next door to Air and Nigel Godrich during the final stages of recording. Which is rather fun as it goes..."

No matter how you introduce one of the country's most successful acts of recent times, it's never going to quite nail the anticipation. That task this evening fell to Iain Baker: "These guys have sold out that place 35 yards to my right three nights next week so to catch them here in such an intimate venue…well, tonight's going to be amazing." Cue even more jostling for position and it's job well done by the Xfm DJ.
Despite appearing onstage a good half hour late, Kele Okereke is upbeat and grinning; the music press is shitting itself at the possibility of something more quotable than reticence. It's decidedly uncharacteristic: quips and exchanges from the famed nonchalant who once barked at a journalist, "Why is it important to know what I had for breakfast?". In a nod to stories of 'A Weekend in the City''s leak, Kele asserts himself again: ""As you know, we've got a new record. Who's heard our new album already? And who's going to buy our new album?"
The Party get straight into it with 'Song for Clay', the first track from the follow-up to 2005's #3 charter 'Silent Alarm'. Despite the volte-face from the angled art-rock movement that Bloc Party headed up, everyone here's still going at it like each offering is an anthemic gem. That first set were famously cut and polished by Paul Epworth. However, to appreciate the new quarry of songs, mastered by 'Jacknife' Lee, you have to dig deeper, as the angular jerk is buried beneath swathes of strings and up-tempered rhythm and blues beats, such as forthcoming single 'Uniform' demonstrates.
'Positive Tension' sees things back on familiar territory, summed up best by the perfect drop for everyone to scream the ideal reproach "so fucking useless!" to Kele's angsty "Why d'you have to get so pissed off?"
An early surprise is 'Banquet'. Were Bloc Party a weaker band, that song would have been shored up for later as a second helping to the alcohol feast the crowd is having of its own. But the calibre of this band's catalogue makes set list assault tactics unnecessary.
Only one other band has written such a classic song about shyness and that was The Smiths with 'Ask'. Bloc Party's take on the affliction, 'The Prayer' is otherworldly in its composition. Foreboding yet optimistic, Kele prays "Tonight make me unstoppable, I will charm, I will slice, I will dazzle them with my wit" – this seriously is quite amazing.
'This Modern Love' reminds us that Bloc Party do sensitivity just as well as staccato guitar lines and hyperkinetic drumming. It's the musical expression of their oft-quoted "You can't pigeonhole us" line when they emerged from the New Cross scene by way of a demo famously finding its way into Steve Lamacq's hands at a Franz Ferdinand gig.
We're taken back to those early days as Kele says, "This is our first hit single, from January 2005, 'So Here We Are'." His beautifully wounded vocals entice lighters aloft. Clearly no one here's worried about the Price of Gas.
Waiting for Bloc Party to reappear is probably the easiest way of making five minutes seem like an hour. Kele beams, "You may be wondering why we have two drum kits on stage. Cue multi-instrumentalist Gordon!" Cue some tedious scuffling and a couple of nervous twangs from guitarist Russell Lissack more like. His trademark three year-long indie fringe clearly isn't enough to hide his awkwardness. "Sorry, we still haven't perfected our change-overs yet." It doesn't matter really; let's just see Gordon on the drums! And to chants of "Gordon, Gordon!", the bassist hammers the skins alongside Matt Tong in a thrashing delivery of 'Sunday'.
"This is our last song, London, 'Two More Years'". Let's just hope we don't have to wait that long again until the next record. This is a remarkable return to duty.

Exclusive: 'I Still Remember' video shoot BLOG PARTY tracked down the directors behind Bloc Party's stunning new video for 'I Still Remember' to find out how it was made. The duo from NYC, known as Aggressive, kindly obliged:
"The stage with the green screen was filmed at this small dig on the outskirts of London, barely large enough to pass for a two car garage. It was chilly and overcast; foreboding and perfectly appropriate for the 14 hour shoot day looming before us.
The Bloc Party guys arrived one by one and headed upstairs to the kitchen, where they kicked back, checked emails, and shared some tea and toast with jam and marmalade (Hey, it's the UK, and it was a nice departure from the bagels and cream cheese we're used to).
This video is designed to look like one shot, in which our camera continually pulls backwards through the aisle of a train, all the while encountering multiple versions of Kele, the band, and friends from different 'memories' in his life, all visible on-screen at once.
To achieve this, we had to shoot on green screen, breaking down all the scenes to whatever might take place on a single pair of train seats. So, that's all we had on stage. Two vintage, maroon-leather seats, bolted into a green floor. As a result, we had a phenomenal amount of footage to shoot to make this train look convincingly full of people. Fortunately, we lucked out. They were fresh. Bloc Party were scheduled for another shoot the next morning at a pub in the area for 'The Prayer'. We were glad to get them first because it was going to be a LONG day.
Acting on a green stage for a realistic scene can be horrifyingly difficult. You need to deliver a convincing performance for a scene that doesn't yet exist. You're alone, standing on a nearly empty stage, no room to walk around or walls to lean on. There is a giant camera focused on you and a room full of crew and extras watching you sweat under hot lights and you've got to 'imagineer' yourself into the expected shot. You're so completely exposed you might as well be naked. If you think it's tough to be a musician stepping onto a stage in front of thousands, try this. It's worse."
Channel 4 takeover bid Bloc Party have teamed up with Channel 4 to host a week of exclusive track performances. '4Music Presents Bloc Party' is to be aired on Sunday 4th February and will see the band showcasing new tracks from 'A Weekend In The City'.
In the week prior to the 4Music Presents special (Sunday 28th January - Thursday February 1st), Channel 4 will also show an exclusive performance of one track per day from 'AWITC'. Viewers will be asked to choose which of the five songs is their favourite and this will determine the playlist for Sunday's programme. The most popular Bloc Party song will be announced on T4 (Saturday January 3rd). Keep up at the back!
The special will be presented by Miquita Oliver and as well as playing four new tracks from their new album, Bloc Party will also give an exclusive performance of one of their old hits. Phew. Anyone for a garibaldi?

'I Still Remember' video premiere The new video for 'I Still Remember', the first US single to be taken from 'A Weekend In The City', premiered today on MTV2 and MTVu. Directed by Aggressive, the video takes place on an eventful train journey. It's a world away from the video for 'The Prayer'; the dingy, druggy ambience being replaced by a shimmering feast for the senses (well, sight and hearing anyway) which should earn Bloc Party a lot of recognition Stateside.
