BlocParty.net comes top 10...you all rule BlocParty.net has come a very respectable 7th in the 'Best Unofficial Site' category at this year's BT Digital Music Awards, placing it at number 19 in the 'Top 200 Music Sites' overall (which includes both official and unofficial sites). I'm really chuffed with this, especially considering the relatively small fanbase of Bloc Party compared to some of the other bands up there (Radiohead, Madonna, Muse, etc...) and also the lack of Bloc activity at the moment. Many thanks to everyone who voted (and voted, and voted)! The full top 200 list is here.

Winners will be announced at an exclusive awards ceremony at London's Roundhouse on October 3, 2006.

Bloc Party pick up a PLUG Award! Last night at New York City's Webster Hall, the winners of this year's PLUG Independent Music Awards were announced. Bloc Party's debut album, 'Silent Alarm' was named as the 'Indie Rock Album Of The Year', beating albums by artists such as Wolf Parade, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah and Sufjan Stevens. (Though Sufjan did pick up the award for overall 'Album Of The Year'!)
Bloc Party make final shortlist for the New Pantheon Music Award As previously reported on Blog Party, Bloc Party's debut album, 'Silent Alarm', was one of the many albums originally shortlisted for the New Pantheon Music Award. The concept behind this prize is to honour the most creative and artistic records of the year. To be eligible, the album has to have been released between July 1st 2004 and October 30th 2005 and sold less than 500,000 copies. It's the U.S. equivalent of the Mercury Music Prize, which Bloc Party were also nominated for last year.
The original list has now been whittled down to just 10 albums, including 'Silent Alarm'. Also up for the award are Animal Collective, Antony and the Johnsons, Arcade Fire, Death Cab For Cutie, Fiona Apple, Kings of Leon, M.I.A., Sufjan Stevens and The Decemberists. Pretty tough competition then!
The winning album will be chosen by a select panel of judges, including Beck, Elton John and Elijah Wood, and announced at a celebratory concert in Los Angeles on February 6th.
Check out the New Pantheon website for more information.

New Pantheon Award and NME Awards 'Silent Alarm' is one of the shortlisted albums for the New Pantheon Music Prize - an American award that replaces the prestigious Shortlist Music Prize. The New Pantheon will go to an album released in the United States between July 1st 2004 and October 30th 2005 that has yet to sell 500,000 copies at the time of nomination.
A panel of 27, including Elton John, Elijah Wood, Beck and John Legend, will decide on the winner. The rather long list of initial nominees will be reduced to 10 finalists and the winner will be announced at a celebratory concert taking place in Los Angeles on February 6th 2006.
You can now also submit your nominations for the winners of the NME Awards 2006. Head over to the NME microsite...
NME name 'Silent Alarm' as their album of the year! It's come around to that time of the year again...chestnuts roasting on an open fire, the copious consumption of mince pies...and numerous end of year best-of lists.
NME have named 'Silent Alarm' as their album of the year, ahead of albums by bands such as Arcade Fire, Franz Ferdinand and The White Stripes! That's a pretty cool achievement!
Kele had this to say about scooping the NME Album Of The Year award:
"It was a shock. It was the last thing we thought was going to happen. But it's a completely pleasant surprise. "Obviously I'm proud of'SilentAlarm' as a record and think it must have touched people. I always had the idea in my head that I wanted the songs to sound a lot bigger on record. I wasn't happy with the idea of us just going in and recording a live album. It had to be a different sort of sound. "I remember at the beginning not being sure how it was going to sound, but by the end of the month realising we'd done ourselves proud. We said, 'If it doesn't get at least eight in NME, we're going to be very upset.' "I still listen to it now and again to see what sort of effect it has on me a year down the line. There are some songs on there that I'm really proud of, and with the next record we're looking to explore those ideas more fully. It was meant to be just the beginning. There was no real overview, it was a snapshot of the way we were thinking. We know that we have better albums in us."
'Banquet' is at number 13 in NME's tracks of the year.
In Q magazine, 'Silent Alarm' is at number 25 in their albums of the year chart and 6 Bloc Party songs are in the magazine's top 100 tracks of the year poll, including 'Banquet' at number 15.
