  Kitsuné Maison Compilation 5...out now!

Just a reminder that Kitsuné Maison's new compilation, featuring Pin Me Down's 'Cryptic', is out today in the UK...order it here (UK) or here (US)!

Edit: Read Pitchfork's review of the compilation here, featuring glowing praise for the PMD track!

"It's compositional effort rather than any specific sound that defines the compilation's several successes. Pin Me Down's by turns sneering and sighing "Cryptic" aims for a midpoint between the Bush Tetras and early Bananarama, and comes out sounding like an ace angry Girls Aloud single. Which should tell us two things: Firstly, that combining rock guitar and beat-heavy electronic production in pop songs isn't so novel that these artists deserve a medal just for turning up, and, conversely, that this very combination can aspire to pop majesty when the participants try hard enough."

And here's another Bloc Party mashup by ToToM...

'Pillowface and His Airplane Chronicles'...out tomorrow

'Pillowface and His Airplane Chronicles', a mix album put together by Steve Aoki (founder of Bloc Party's first US record label, Dim Mak), is out tomorrow in the States on Thrive Records. It features the 'Weird Science Remix' of 'Helicopter' (feat. Peaches) amongst other tracks by the likes of Justice, Does It Offend You, Yeah?, Klaxons, and lots more. Click here to buy the CD or listen to samples.

In other Bloc news...well, there isn't really any at the moment! Suffice to say, the guys are currently holed up somewhere on Planet Earth, discussing what album #3 is going to sound like.

In the meantime, 'Flux' is still in the UK singles charts (hanging on at #40 in its tenth week), Pin Me Down's Milena continues to post highly entertaining bulletins on the PMD blog (look out for a 'Cryptic' single release sometime in March!), and Russell judges a vegetarian T-shirt competition for PETA (only herbivorous garments allowed to enter?). Rest assured, BlocParty.net will bring you third album news as and when it happens!

Bloc Party contribute to 'Love Music Hate Racism' campaign album

Bloc Party will appear on a special compilation CD in aid of the Love Music Hate Racism campaign, given away free with the October 10th issue of NME next month. There's no official tracklisting yet, but according to the official LMHR site, the Bloc Party contribution is likely to be a Diplo remix of 'Where Is Home?'. Other artists featured on the CD include Dirty Pretty Things, Maximo Park and Lethal Bizzle.

Speaking to NME, Kele had this to say about Bloc Party's involvement in the project:

"The thing is, I heard what the BNP were proposing to do [giving away albums by white power bands outside British schools and universities] and it sent a real shiver down my spine. They're an evil organisation and the thought of them handing out stuff to young impressionable minds is incredibly frightening. Anything we can do as a band to raise awareness we will do."

'Wait A Minute' vinyl and download single out today!

A new epidemic has recently broken out amongst indie music fans across the world. Hastily named 'Bloc-Party-go-AWOL-itis', the disease is brought on by a lack of new Bloc Party music and uncertainty in the release date of the band's second album. Symptoms include Bloc Party related nightmares, usually involving the band splitting up, and the love of poor quality gig bootlegs.

One cure for this ailment is the aural intake of a 'Silent Alarm' tablet, to be taken at least once daily at loud volume and preferably whilst dancing. However, a new fast, effective pain relief has also emerged...music created by a Bloc Party individual, such as the new 'Wait A Minute' track by The League Of International Super Best Friends.

This single, taken from Yourcodenameis:Milo's forthcoming sessions album, is out today on limited edition 7" vinyl and download only. Mr. Gordon Moakes supplies the (rather funky) bassline and YCNI:M contribute the remaining instrumentation. The track could almost be a lost Bloc Party song, containing shades of 'Price of Gasoline' and driven by a Tong-esque military drumbeat.

The vinyl is limited to just 1000 copies, so your best bet of getting hold of the song is either from
eBay, or a download service such as 7 Digital. You can listen to a sample here.

  Yourcodenameis:Gordy

Details have been announced of the much-anticipated sessions album coordinated by Geordie quintet Yourcodenameis:Milo and featuring collaborations with bands such as Maximo Park, The Futureheads and The Automatic.

The album, entitled 'Print Is Dead Vol. 1', is set for release on November 6th, preceded by a single, 'Wait A Minute', which features Bloc Party's very own Gordon Moakes on bass duties. This will be available as a strictly limited 7" vinyl and download from October 2nd.

Speaking to Gigwise about his appearance on the album, Gordy said:

"I appeared on a frosty December day after months touring the world with the Bloc. We finally found time just before Christmas. I'd loved 'Ignoto' (Yourcodenameis:Milo's debut album) so a chance to hang out, even butt musical horns as it were with Milo was something I relished."

"Our track started pretty simply: I just mentioned something about Les Savy Fav and Justin started putting down a groovy little beat which we built some slinky hooks over."

"I said it should all kick off and sound dense at the end and Paul wrote that riff which appears at the end. I piled it up with moving chords on the bass to make it sound thicker, and we all loved it straightaway."

The League of International Super Best Friends

As if playing bass in Bloc Party wasn't enough, Gordy Moakes has been keeping busy with 'The League of International Super Best Friends'...a special collaboration with members of YOURCODENAMEIS:MILO.

The first fruits of their labour will soon be ripe for picking...TLOISBF have recorded a version of the Cable song, 'Do The Tube', which will appear on the 'Souvenir - A Tribute to Cable' album, released in late October by Signature Tune Records. The cover will be available to stream in advance from Myspace in early October. Nope, I had no idea who Cable were either. God Bless Wikipedia!

Secondly, the much anticipated YCNI:M sessions album (first mentioned on BLOG PARTY back in February), which will also feature TLOISBF (arrgh, I've gone acronym crazy!), now has a title...'Print Is Dead'. Keep posted for a release date/tracklisting!

Download Russell's Placebo remix from iTunes

As previously reported on Blog Party, Placebo have been bitten by the Bloc Party bug. The 'Russell Lissack from Bloc Party Remix' of the new Placebo single, 'Because I Want You', will be released in the U.K. as a b-side to the original song on Monday March 6th. The remix is also available to download now from iTunes.

Russell's done a sterling job with the track, giving it a very Bloc Party feel. Opening with a syncopated bassline reminiscent of
'She's Hearing Voices' and some crashing Tong-esque drums, the remix quickly morphs into an atmospheric floorfiller. There's even room for some trademark Russell riffage and what can only be described as a not-very-silent alarm solo in the middle section. Download it and you'll see what I mean!

  Gordy records track with Yourcodenameis:milo

Gordy has recorded an experimental track with Geordie noiseniks Yourcodenameis:milo for the British equivalent of Queens Of The Stone Age's 'Desert Sessions'. Inspired by Josh Homme's experimental project where he regularly lures musicians into the Californian desert to record, Gordy laid down a song at the band's Newcastle HQ just before Christmas.

Speaking about the recording sessions, he told NME.com: "We wrote and recorded a song in a day. It was really good fun and they're a great bunch of guys. It was great doing something different and it was worth it as well. I was kind of nervous about it to begin with but it worked out really well."

Over the past few months, Tom Vek, Reuben and Martin Grech have also contributed to the project. YCNI:M are now hoping to coax PJ Harvey, a veteran from the original 'Desert Sessions', and Bjork to Newcastle.

The project is tentatively titled 'The International League of Super Best Friends'. An album release and tour are being considered - check back for more info!

Placebo get the Bloc Party treatment

Not content with releasing a remixed version of their own debut album, Bloc Party have turned their collective art-rock-shaped hand to other bands' tracks. They've recently completed a remix of the new Placebo single, 'Because I Want You', which should be included on the special DVD edition of the forthcoming Placebo album, 'Meds', out on March 13th. Thanks to sucker-love.com for the info.

Also, the Bloc Party High School Prom Remix of Chromeo's electro-pop anthem, 'Needy Girl', was released on 12" vinyl last October. You can also download it from here.

More info on the Bloc Party / The Futureheads picture disc

For anyone who's been trying to get hold of the split 10" picture disc, I actually got the name of the magazine wrong, sorry!

To find out more and enter a competition to win one of twenty copies of the magazine, go here.

Cover of John Peel tribute single designed by Gordy

On November 21st 2005, a celebrity cover of the Buzzcocks' 'Ever Fallen In Love...' is being released as a tribute to John Peel. This was one of the songs in the DJ's treasured record box, where he kept his all-time favourites under lock and key.

Gordy has designed the cover for the single. Speaking to NME, he said: "The design of the single is quite simple - very Bloc Party - but I wanted it to have some warmth to it, which you don't always get with our sleeves. The single is about John Peel, who we loved, and it's also about Amnesty, so the heart motif fits in nicely with their 'Protect the Human' message as well as referencing the original sleeve."

Some of the other musicians involved in making the single are Pete Shelley (of the Buzzcocks), Peter Hook, Robert Plant and Roger Daltrey. All proceeds will go to Amnesty International.
