Bloc Party played a secret gig in the pub area of the Great Northern Hotel in Byron Bay, Australia tonight (July 24). The band, warming up for their appearance at the Splendour In The Grass festival tomorrow (July 25), played for 400 fans and were billed as 'The Silent Alarms' – after the title of their 2005 debut album 'Silent Alarm'.
In fact the set was influenced by the temporary name, with Bloc Party playing the whole of the aforementioned first LP, plus 'Two More Years' and 'The Marshals Are Dead'. "They billed us as 'The Silent Alarms' so we decided to live up to the name," frontman Kele Okereke explained from the stage. "We're here in the most beautiful part of Australia and we wanted to do something special for you."

It doesn't get much better than a 'Blue Light' and 'The Marshals Are Dead' double whammy
Brent Hodge, a film maker from Vancouver, Canada, has sent over this video he made of Bloc Party's gig in his home town earlier this year...enjoy!
Brent is a self-confessed Bloc Party addict and has posted various other Bloc-related media on his online videoblog: Hodgee Podgee. Here are BLOG PARTY's favourites...
'I Carry Your Heart'...based on E. E. Cummings' beautiful poem (which also inspired the lyrics of 'Ion Square'), soundtracked by 'SRXT'
'My Scars'...a video poem written by Brent Hodge about 'the hardships of reaching your goals...no matter what path you choose in life, where you end up, what you want, or who you're with, you will always have your memories and your scars'. Soundtracked by the early live version of 'Compliments'.
Halo / Hunting For Witches / Positive Tension / Biko / Waiting For The 7.18 / Song For Clay (Disappear Here) / Banquet / Blue Light / Uniform / One More Chance / Mercury / This Modern Love / The Prayer / Helicopter
Love it or hate it, Bloc Party's new single, 'One More Chance', is undeniably catchy, as addictive as a tube of Pringles in all their glutamate glory. If you can still cope with that piano riff, check out the video below. If not, put it on mute and enjoy the spectacle!
A man with mutton chop sideburns plonks enthusiastically on an electric keyboard whilst Matt looks bemused. A Blanche DuBois-esque woman preens herself whilst Kele looks glum. A vested young man pulls some shapes whilst Russell looks bored. A girl has a scary Ouija board experience whilst Gordy smiles wryly. I'll leave you to make sense of it all...
Update: Here's the video in all its YouTube glory...
Ever lay awake at night wondering what would happen if a well-respected British newspaper gave a video camera to Gordy and Matt and asked them to record their Glastonbury experience? Well, your prayers have been answered...
Disclaimer: do not try to replicate these events at home. Bloc Party will not be held responsible for any traumatic injuries involving water bottles or sofas.
Last night, Bloc Party played one of the biggest gigs of their careers, headlining the Other Stage at Glastonbury, and they well and truly rocked it. Watch highlights of their set here, courtesy of the Beeb!

The band have also released a video for the Villians remix of 'Ares', made entirely of mobile phone clips sent in by fans (and Gordy!) from the two recent London Olympia gigs. Feast your eyes below...
Un Coeur De Pierre In the spirit of Tarrant on TV, here's a random Bloc Party-related advert for French radio station, Oui FM. Thanks to nos amis across the English Channel for the video.

Bloc Party announced today that on May 11th they''ll be releasing ‘Intimacy Remixed’ on limited edition CD /triple 12”...the younger brother of 'Silent Alarm Remixed' which came out in August 2005.
The album will include remixes by Gold Panda, Mogwai and Filthy Dukes and will lead off with a remix of ‘Signs’ by Armand Van Helden, released on April 27th (so that's what the teaser videos were about!).
Here's the full tracklisting:
1. Ares (Villains remix) 2. Mercury (Herve is in Disarray remix) 3. Halo (We Have Band Dub) 4. Biko (Mogwai remix) 5. Trojan Horse (John B remix) 6. Signs (Armand Van Helden remix) 7. One Month Off (Filthy Dukes remix) 8. Zephyrus (Phase One remix) 9. Talons (Phones RIP remix) 10. Better Than Heaven (No Age remix) 11. Ion Square (Banjo or Freakout remix) 12. Letter To My Son (Gold Panda remix) 13. Your Visits are Getting Shorter (Double D remix)
Those expecting a gently pulsating reworking of 'Signs', look away now...Van Halden has turned the track into a dirty, if slightly pedestrian, monster. The video for the remix comes on like one of Chris Cunningham's worst nightmares, featuring a disturbing child, mirrorball heads, various electrical implants and a very lippy pièce de résistance. Don't expect to see it on primetime TV anytime soon.

In perhaps the most exciting Bloc Party news for...oh, at least a week, Kele has fallen off his chair during an interview in Australia. Balancing precariously on his chair throughout the questioning (he claims to enjoy that hovering sensation), Kele tipped himself back that little bit too far during a lengthy Matt monologue. Kele meet carpet, carpet meet Mr. Okereke.
It's a well known fact that watching someone fall off their chair is one of the funniest things known to man. It is, however, not known whether Kele's fall was a genuine victory of gravity over chair-balancing finesse, or a cunning publicity stunt to drum up a few extra sales of the new album...
Click on the links below to check out a FaceCulture video exclusive...watch Matt speak about the previous two albums ('Silent Alarm' = too long, 'A Weekend In The City' = too textured!), 'Intimacy''s subject matter, and taking a year off after the current tour's finished (he wants to learn how to kayak and Russell's going back to furniture making).
A very kind someone has put Bloc Party's recent performance on French show 'Le Live De La Semaine' up on YouTube...here's a couple highlights, and you can watch the remaining 5 tracks here!
Hunting For Witches / Positive Tension / Blue Light / Trojan Horse / Song For Clay (Disappear Here) / Banquet / Letter To My Son (first time played live) / Talons / Mercury / This Modern Love / The Prayer / Like Eating Glass
Watch below a video of Bloc Party performing the Smiths-esque 'Intimacy' bonus track, 'Letter To My Son', in The Pool Studios. It's part of the 'Live and Intimate' film which you can access with the new CD album and watch online here(or via some crafty YouTube searching here!)
After the gig, Bloc Party treated a very lucky group of fans to an acoustic rendition of 'This Modern Love' outside the Truskel pub in Paris...quelle chance!

Bump:La Blogotheque have posted a higher-quality video of Kele and Russell's performance in the Parisian streets:
In which Mr. Okereke and Mr. Tong watch biodiesel fuel being made in front of their very eyes, discuss their next album (only likely to be available as sheet music due to credit crunch-driven electricity shortages), and announce that they will be performing live on their upcoming South American tour. Clicky here.
'Hunting For Witches'...the video that didn't get used
This alternate video for 'Hunting For Witches' was produced by the Semifinalists frontman, Ferry Gouw. Starring ex Dazed & Confused photographic director, Sylvia Farago, as a tormented witch, this is what Ferry had to say about it: "I did a low low budget video for them. I think they thought I was taking the piss. I should put it up one of these days. It’s really emotional. The witch created a creature that she loved, but its heart was spoiled and cursed, so the creature destroyed everything it touched."
In the end, the band chose to use this more orthodox performance video.
Here's a video of Bloc Party performing 'Banquet' at MTV's Video Music Brazil yesterday - their first ever South American appearance. This must be what happens when you ask Kele to lip-sync...instead of pretending to sing he leaps around the stage like a hyperactive child hepped up on E-numbers. Even Matt (sporting a natty fake moustache and bow-tie combination) and Gordy join in later on.
Edit: Bloc Party's playback performance has hit a bit of a nerve in Brazil, with loads of disgruntled fans commenting on this MTV VMB 2008 blog, and many people over there accusing Bloc Party of choosing to do the playback rather than playing live.
Edit #2: Here's a longer article about the playback. From a quick go with Google Translate, it appears that the band themselves requested the playback at the last minute. Read the (badly) translated article here! Anyway, rest assured, the boys will be back on form come their return to Brazil in November.

Skeleton(!!!)
The band came back on for a second encore and Kele gave the microphone to the fans at the front, saying they'd play whatever song was said first. To the relief of many, the first fan responded by chanting "Skeleton!". Well done that man...may you go down in the history books as the person who finally persuaded Bloc Party to perform 'Skeleton' live again. Watch some video evidence below...

Go here to watch the video for Bloc Party's new single, 'Talons', out on October 20th (or watch via YouTube below). Menacing and moody - it fits in well with the track, and is also the first video since 'Hunting For Witches' to feature the band. Watch a bare-chested Kele gnash his teeth, and the other band members...erm...stare at light fittings!
Here's a couple bonus Vcasts for your viewing pleasure...go here to download them (you have to be a 'Pioneer').
Bloc Party in Japan: Bloc Party are on the road again, this time in beautiful Japan where they recreate the video for 'I Still Remember' on a bullet train, Final Fantasy perform their stunning rendition of 'This Modern Love', the Noisettes get bouncy backstage, Smoosh charm us all and it's cake all round!
Silent Film: Move over Buster Keaton, Matt and Gordon soundtrack and star in their very own silent(ish) film, occasionally treading into Kasabian territory.
Being on the road can do strange things to a man...Join Gordy, Matt, Russell and power roadie John as they duel their imaginary axes to the Top Gear theme on the tour bus before settling down to a quiet game of hat attack and a singalong to 10CC.
More Mercury...yl To coincide with the first play of 'Mercury', BlocParty.com has been relaunched. Head over there to stream the new song, and watch the accompanying, slightly-creepy, video here(or below).
And here's a behind-the-scenes video of Kele's appearance on BBC Radio 1's Zane Lowe show earlier tonight...
These two videos were filmed in late 2004, on Bloc Party's first ever US tour around toilet-sized venues. They were professionally recorded for Bloc Party's US record label at the time, Dim Mak, but never saw the light of day. No rare songs unfortunately, but it's a pretty good opportunity to see early Bloc at their best. Download them both below!
In January 2006, experimental folk band, Tunng, released their cover of 'The Pioneers' - a haunting, atmospheric take on the original track which was featured in The O.C. (Season 3, Episode 24 - The Man of the Year, fact fans). Download it here (courtesy of Visions and Revisions).
Below is a video of Tunng performing the cover at their recent gig in Milano...check out the maraca action.
Bloc Party Vcasts #9 and #10 (Blocumentaries part deux!)
As promised, here's the remaining two Blocumentaries - episodes 9 and 10 of the Bloc Party Vcasts, recorded at the December Glasgow and Manchester gigs respectively. Enjoy!
Here's episodes 11 and 12 of the Bloc Party Vcasts, which this time take the form of Blocumentaries, recorded by two fans during the band's arena tour last December. These episodes were filmed at the London Alexandra Palace dates...check back soon for the Glasgow and Manchester videos!
BBC 6 Music caught up with Kele and Matt backstage at London's Alexandra Palace last night as they wrapped up 2007 with their final gig of the year, tongues planted firmly in cheeks...

Just a reminder that you can get your mitts on 'Flux' across a multitude of formats right now...scroll down a couple posts for full details. Also, stick the NME CD in your computer for a special website chock-full of Bloc Party freebies. Non-UK fans...look out for the full NME article uploaded onto BlocParty.net in the next day or two.
Critical reaction to 'Flux' has been mostlypositiveso far(small exception) and the remix of Where Is Home? (on the 12" vinyl) by dubstep's man-of-the-moment, Burial, is one of the most original and accomplished Bloc remixes to date (download it here). 'Flux' is also the first multi-lingual Bloc Party song...Kele has re-recorded his vocals in German and French (for the full Eurodance effect?) and residents of those countries can download the results on the German and French iTunes!
In non-Flux news, a new remix of 'Hunting For Witches' is currently tearingup the blogosphere. It's by a duo called Villains and you can download it below...
